On 2 June 2025, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic will announce a new call for applications for a contribution to the development of tourism, which is intended exclusively for municipalities and cities with up to 5,000 inhabitants. The aim is to support the development of tourist infrastructure in locations with high potential but insufficient capacity.
"We have good news for smaller municipalities and towns again. From June 2, we are launching a call that will allow municipalities to improve places with tourist potential. These are often locations that are attractive, but lack basic infrastructure or support for their development," said Minister of Tourism and Sports Rudolf Huliak.
The call is part of the ministry's long-term strategy to make resources for tourism development available to smaller municipalities, which are often overlooked in large subsidy schemes.
Eligible activities include:
• construction, reconstruction and restoration of pedestrian, water and hiking trails, as well as educational trails and their equipment,
• construction, modernization and renovation of tourist shelters,
• investments in recreational infrastructure, such as observation towers, lookout towers or gazebos,
• construction and restoration of cultural objects in nature, such as natural amphitheaters,
• expansion of parking capacities and improvement of hygienic conditions,
• implementation of additional infrastructure, including solar lighting, smart solutions using renewable resources and social facilities outside the utility networks.
"We have allocated 4.5 million euros for this call. We want everyone to have access to funds for infrastructure development – even smaller municipalities, which are often the backbone of domestic tourism," added Minister Huliak.
The minimum amount of the contribution is €10,000, the maximum is €100,000, and the co-payment is requested10 % of the total eligible expenditure. The deadline for submission of applications is 15 July 2025.

This is the second call for municipalities with up to 5000 inhabitants. Currently, the ministry is collecting applications for contributions for the reconstruction and modernization of sports infrastructure, for which it will provide applicants with 5 million euros. It currently registers 86 applications with a total value of approximately 4.2 million euros.
