Register of Medal Awards

In an effort to improve the quality of information about the activities of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport in the field of sports, your contact person for information on the register of medal awards is: Igor Karaba.

On 1 January 2016, Act No. 112/2015 Coll. on the Sports Representative's Allowance and on the Amendment to Act No. 461/2003 Coll. on Social Insurance, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Contribution Act") entered into force.

The purpose of the Allowance Act is to financially provide for those athletes who, as sports representatives of the Czechoslovak Republic, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the Czech-Slovak Federative Republic, the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic or the Slovak Republic, have received:
a) medal award at the Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic Games,
b) medal award at the World Championships in Olympic sports discipline,
c) the title of European champion in the Olympic sports discipline.
If an athlete has won several medal awards, he is entitled to only one contribution, in the amount corresponding to the highest medal award.

In accordance with Section 7 (2) of the Allowance Act, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as the "Ministry") keeps a register of medal awards, in which the name, surname, birth number, type of medal award and type of sports event at which the athlete received the medal award are recorded. The ministry then provides the payer of the contribution, which is the Social Insurance Agency, with data from the register of medal awards.
The register of medal awards was prepared in cooperation with sports associations. We do not rule out that there will be other athletes who have met the conditions set by law and are not yet registered in the register of medal awards. However, in cooperation with the relevant sports associations and the Social Insurance Agency, we are ready to deal with such cases individually.
The entitlement to the contribution arises from the date of submission of the written application to the Social Insurance Agency and the application forms are available at any of its branches.
