Bratislava, 10/04/2025 – The 59th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Sports Support Fund took place today at the headquarters of the Sports Support Fund in the premises of the National Tennis Centre. At the meeting, Minister of Tourism and Sports Rudolf Huliak emphasized the need for an efficient and fair distribution of funds, which should be directed primarily to regions and local governments.
The minister appealed for a reduction in the bureaucratic burden and an increase in the availability of calls for local governments. "We need municipalities to be able to draw funds without having to have building permits or finished projects in advance. Our goal is to be able to participate in the calls even without completing the administrative procedure, while the economy check would take place only after the implementation of the projects," said Huliak.
At the same time, he called for a constructive approach between all actors in the field of sport – associations, the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee, as well as the Fund itself. According to the minister, political differences and individual interests should not stand in the way of the goal – the equal development of sports infrastructure throughout Slovakia.
At the same time, the minister emphasized the importance of passporting sports facilities, i.e. creating a clear database of existing sports facilities. This should help prevent an imbalance in investments – so that all funds are not concentrated in a few locations, while other regions are left without sports facilities.
"It's not that we're going to sink 60 million in concrete for a few buildings. Our priority is to ensure that investments in sports infrastructure have the greatest possible social impact. To bring sports closer to all residents of Slovakia, and especially to children and youth," said Huliak.
According to the minister, it is necessary to consider the creation of legislation and the direction of fundsathletes themselves. That is why he emphasized the importance of the Advisory Council Body. The Council is intended to serve as a platform for professional discussion and decision-making for the benefit of the entire sports environment.
"The more athletic the nation is, the lower the costs of health care will be," Huliak concluded.
