At today's meeting, the Government of the Slovak Republic approved the national sports project of the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee called Generation OLYMP on the initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport. The aim of the ambitious project is to fundamentally strengthen the sports infrastructure serving primarily children and youth, to support the development of talents in the regions and to bring Slovakia back to the Olympic spotlight, in both team and individual sports.

"At last year's Olympics in Paris, we had the smallest team in history. And this is a signal that could not leave us cold. We are launching the Generation OLYMP project precisely to prevent such a situation from happening again. Our goal is to support sport for everyone so vigorously that the final consequence will be an increase in the number of our athletes at top European and world championships, but especially at the Olympic Games. We are uniting to make Slovak sport stronger," said the Minister of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic.

The project will affect all levels of sport – from better conditions for sports for children in schools in small villages, through dual career opportunities for sports-talented youth, to national team selections. As part of it, Olympic training centers will be established in each of the self-governing regions at secondary sports schools, where the most talented athletes will be provided with professional conditions - training, accommodation, nutrition, health care and travel costs.

The project also includes support for team sports that have a real potential to qualify for the Olympic Games in the near future. In 2025, €1 million will be allocated for volleyball, handball, basketball, water polo and floorball, which could be included in the Olympic Games program in the near future.

'A decisive element of theHere the emphasis is on systematic and long-term support of youth sports. We want sport to become an attractive and real way of life for young people. It is the Olympic dream that can be a strong motivation," the minister added.

The Generation OLYMP project will also focus on the reconstruction and modernization of gyms in municipalities with up to 5,000 inhabitants. In cooperation with SOŠV, the recently announced call will be transformed into a new support mechanism within the national sports project, which will increase the volume of available funds by another million euros to 6 million euros.

Another priority is to support the participation of Slovak athletes in the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan/Cortina (Winter Olympics/Winter Olympics 2026) and Los Angeles (Summer Olympics/Summer Olympics 2028). €1.685 million will be released for winter sports and para sports, and €1.2 million for summer sports and para sports in 2025.

The Generation OLYMP project is both a challenge and a commitment that the ministry will support with €10,980,000. The ambition of both partners is to build a system that will provide young people in the regions with a safe space to move, quality sports conditions and the opportunity to grow to the Olympic level. Slovak sport has potential – now is the time to fully develop it.
