Bratislava, 1 April 2025 – The Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic welcomes the decision of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, which today approved an increase in funding for the Sports Support Fund. As a result, the fund will manage an amount of EUR 60 million per year, which is a threefold increase compared to the current volume of EUR 20 million.

This step is an important milestone in the support of Slovak sport and a clear signal that the state is aware of the importance of systematic and long-term investment in sports infrastructure, clubs, talented youth and sport for all. The increased funding will allow the fund to respond more flexibly to the needs of the sports environment, while strengthening strategic projects in regions that have so far faced limited budgets.

The proposal received broad support across the political spectrum, with as many as 90 MPs voting in favour. The ministry appreciates that the proposal was also supported by some opposition lawmakers. This is a positive example of the fact that sport can connect across political views for the benefit of the whole society.

At the same time, an adjustment in the area of operating costs of the fund was also approved. At the proposal of MP Roman Malatinec from the National Coalition, the Sports Support Fund will be able to use a maximum of 2.5% of the total budget for its operation, instead of the originally proposed 5%. This change will contribute to a more efficient use of public funds and ensure that an even larger share of funds will go directly to support sports activities.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Rudolf Huliak considers the approval of the amendment to the law to be one of the most important decisions in the field of sports policy in recent years. The increased amount of funding will benefit the entire sports movement – from top athletes, through regional clubs, to children and youth, whoThey are engaged in physical activities.

"Sport is not just about medals and victories. It is an investment in the health, character and future of our children. I consider this decision to be a fundamental step towards Slovakia becoming a sports country with solid foundations and equal opportunities for all," said Minister Huliak.
