The Minister of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic, Rudolf Huliak, today received the talented Slovak cyclist Viktória Chladoňová, who won two silver medals at the World Road Cycling Championships in Kigali (Rwanda) – in the individual time trial and in the mass start race in the U23 category.
For her extraordinary sports performances and successful representation of the Slovak Republic, the Minister handed her a letter of thanks from the Minister of Tourism and Sports.
"Viktória is an example that Slovak sport has great potential among young people as well. Her determination, diligence and humility are values that are role models for athletes. With its results, it honors not only cycling, but the whole of Slovakia. I would like to sincerely thank her for her great representation and for motivating the young generation of athletes with her approach," said Minister Rudolf Huliak.
Viktória Chladoňová is one of the greatest talents of Slovak women's cycling. It has been establishing itself on the international scene for several years. A member of the National Sports Centre, she won silver at the World Championships in the junior women's time trial last year and added bronze at the European Championships in the same discipline and category. She is making her mark in cyclocross or mountain biking, where she won the Junior World Championships in cross-country last year.
After the successful World Championships in Kigali, she was very eager to add a medal at the European Championships in France at the beginning of the month. In the end, it was 4th place. "The performance was the same, but the tactics, the track and the opponents were different. You don't manage to win every race," admitted the 18-year-old cyclist with a smile, who is about to graduate from high school this year. Her role model is currently the world's best cyclist, Slovenian Tadej Pogačar. "In my opinion, Pogačar is a role model for every cyclist. What he is proving is unreal and we need to take an example from him."
Chladoňová last year phas written off a three-year contract with the elite team Visma-Lease and Bike and will be part of the highest category races. She has already completed the women's Vuelta and the Giro this year, where she finished in 16th place overall. "It's an amazing feeling. The security and support from the team is much better than I had before. This can help me not only in preparation, but also in results."
At the end of the reception, the young cyclist thanked for the acceptance and support, which she perceives as an encouragement for further work. The Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic has long supported the development of youth and talented sports, including through programs aimed at the systematic preparation of young athletes.
